Rosamunde, the bastard daughter of King Henry, is a naive girl who has grown up in convent. The day before she is to take the veil and become a nun, her father arrives with a fiance in tow for her to marry on that very day. Henry is outraged when he learns that Rosamunde, the child of his love that died when is daughter was just an infant, is about to become a nun. He demands that the marriage vows take place immediately.
Aric, the husband chosen by Henry, had only broken his previous betrothal the day before when he found his fiance with another man in the stables. He is jaded against women and declares he will never marry, until the King shows up and gives him the choice of marriage or a painful death. Henry makes them consummate their marriage immediately, so it cannot be annulled due to an unknown threat to Rosamunde. When Aric decides to find out what the threat is, he is thwarted by the sudden death of the King. Aric, who is steadily falling in love with his wife, fears for her safety when attacks against begin. Rosamunde has fallen in love with Aric, and believes the attacks are against him. Together, they fight an unknown enemy to find peace in their newly found love and marriage. | ||
