The Harper Mansion was passed down to Roz along with the Harper Bride a ghost who has haunted the Mansion since anyone could remember. The Harper Bride who we learned was named Amelia in the last book Blue Dahlia has gone from a nurturing ghost who sings lullabies to the children in the house to a man hater and will do anything in her power to make sure that Roz knows that men will cheat and lie and take over everything that she has built for herself.

After widowing at a young age, and a brief marrage and divorce from Bryce who shows up and is seeking revenge through this story she finds herself wondering if she is willing to open up to another man like that again.

Mitch is trying to find out the history of Harper Mansion and the Harper bride. He finds that the more time his spends around Roz the more wrath the Harper ghost shows towards him.
