| Plot Summary of Revelations: The Autobiography of Alvin Ailey |
"The late Alvin Ailey, legendary and revolutionary American dancer, chronicles his life, beginning with his humble Texas roots on to the theatrical stages of the world. Ailey tells of his long career, its highs and lows, and honestly discusses his sexuality. The dancer also writes about the racial prejudices that he faced in trying for success on the Broadway stage. Along the way, the author "drops" names of other luminaries of dance (George Balanchine, Judith Jameson, Carmen de Lavallade, and Lester Horton, to name a few), each having an impact on his development. Ailey's longtime friend, the equally remarkable Lena Horne, writes the book's foreword."
Reginald D. Garrard, Resident Scholar
