| Plot Summary of The Plains of Passage |
"In the novels that came before this one did, Jean M. Auel, the author returns us to the earliest days of humankind and to the captivating adventures of Ayla and Jondular. Jondular wants to travel back to his home, and there is a very long even dangerous journey ahead in this book. Their odyssey spans a beautiful but sparsely populated and treacherous continent, the windswept grasslands of Ice Age Europe, casting the pair among strangers. Some will be intrigued by Ayla and Jondular, and others, are not so sure about them; threatened by what they cannot understand. But Ayla, with no memory at all of her own people, and Jondular, with a hunger to return to his, are compelled to keep going on the journey ahead until they reach his home."

"The fourth novel in the Earth's Children series is largely a travel book. It begins as Ayla and Jondalar leaves the Mamouth hunters with whom they have been staying and journey across Europe to make their home with Jondalar's tribe. As they travel, the couple face many challenges, including the natural elements, and an encounter with clansmen, like those who have raised Ayla. As they draw closer to their destination Ayla begins to wonder if she will be accepted by Jondalar's people."
