"Melody Logan was content with her life, living with her mother, father, and non-biological grandparents, Mama Arlene and Papa George. But when tragedy strikes in this small, coal mining town, Melody loses her most important treasure...her father. Melody is devastated by the loss, unlike her mother, who has already found another man. Melody's mother, Haille, forces her to pick up everything and leave, saying that she is going to try to become a model...but what Melody didn't know was that her mother didn't want to bring her along for the trip, and that she was leaving her at the home of her father's brother, whom she had never met before. Uncle Jacob and his family are not welcoming at all to Melody, and her Grandmother Olivia acts badly towards her."
