Is there any way to edit book information? The info for this book is WILDLY inaccurate. For instance, it took place in France (two of the main characters were French, the other was Swedish), not Eastern Europe.

WOW! This book is fantastic! I absolutely love it. Although it varies greatly from Andrew Lloyd Webber's play, the book is a chilling and very sorrowful tale that had me sobbing at the end.

The events of the book are claimed and supposedly proved real by Gaston Leroux's extensive research for articles and letters partaining to the Paris Opera House scandal of 1896 in which the Comte de Chagny(Philippe) was found dead beside the Opera House lake and Christine Daae and the Vicomte de Chagny(Raoul) go missing. The "Phantom" is known later as Erik, a real man who society has outcast and who has found a haven in the Opera cellars. Yes, I believe that Charles Gardnier had created the underground lake in the plans, but he was NOT the phantom. (For more in depth info, check out the Signet Classics publication with an Intro from Dr. John L. Flynn. It's very helpful)

I have yet to get my hands on a copy of the book, but I intend to as soon as possible. I absolutely LOVED the movie. A day does not go by when there is not one of the songs stuck in my head. Even if you're not into musicals see the movie anyways.

THis book ROCKS!The movie is very good as well! Everyone should read the book and see the play and see the movie!

I was researching this and I found that there actually is a lake under the Paris Opera House. I went on a website and I saw that it said that the Opera house and the lake were built by the Phantom himself, could that be Charles Garnier(the builder of the Opera)?

Does anyone know where that quote is in the movie..thought it was dialog as the soundtrack doesn't have it.
