Claire Sharp grew up trying to keep both herself and her mother out of trouble. Clair's father killed himself when she was young and her mother turned to alcohol to deal with this death. This has led Claire to be a driven woman who knows what she wants to do, and a headstrong one at that. Claire is now a college student days away from graduating, works at a local nursing home and is the maid of honor in her housemate Josie's wedding.

Shortly after the wedding Claire's life is threatened and she is attacked. Josie, being a mercenary, calls in help from Brett “Hotwire” Adams. Whenever Brett and Claire have crossed paths in the past it has been like oil and water interacting. This time though Brett can't seem to stop thinking about Claire in more than terms of friendship. When Claire is attacked in her home Brett takes her to the hotel with him and also sets out to help her determine why she is under attack.
As Brett and Claire become more intimate they also determine that it is something that the bad guys think Claire has that they are after. In fact it is the “kill book” of a former hit man who has recently passed away at the nursing home where Claire worked. The story follows Claire and Brett as they get hot between the sheets. Brett proposed marriage, Claire turns him down, and they solve the mystery of where the “kill book” is and why people are being killed for it.
