Anticipation starts in the earliest stages of production for the first Star Wars prequel and follows the movie's journey through massive promotional contracts, toy deals, Internet frenzy, and month-long lineups by rabid fans up through the theatrical release and the movie's journey to home video. Anticipation tells the story of a movie that introduced the entire world to young Anakin Skywalker, the boy who becomes Darth Vader.
The book is logically divided into sections so that the first part of the book covers the leadup to the film, including its production and marketing, while the middle of the book focuses on aspects related to the movie's release, such as the toys coming to stores, the fans camped in line outside of theaters, the film opening in theaters nationwide, and the amazing media attention the movie commanded. The last section of the book focuses on the movie's successes, such as at the box office both internationally and in the U.S., the toy sales, the VHS and DVD releases, and the movie's network premiere.
