Tucker Field is a guy's guy who knows what he wants and goes after it. One thing he doesn't want is to settle down as he is determined not to walk out on a woman and child.

Tucker is brought in to Andi's firehouse to help solve an arson investigation. Tucker is known as a genius in solving fire mysteries. But, he takes one look at Andi and a second pursuit is undertaken. He manages to get invited to a barbecue where he will be paid up with Andi and finally gets her to agree to go to dinner with him, as long as they keep it secret from her fellow firefighters. One thing leads to another and they sleep together. Andi finds she is falling in love with Tucker but she assumes he is like all the other guys she has dated and doesn't want this and tried to act like it is just an affair. This leads Tucker to wonder where he stands. There is a little fire investigation in the book but the majority of the remainder of the book deals with Andi and Tuckers relationship.
