The story is ostensibly that of how the protagonist comes to terms with her new life and the problems she faces with her dislike for several of her coworkers with whom she is often confined. However, the book takes on another dimension when she discovers that several of the chimps are savagely killed. She comes to realise that the chimps are nowing showing real human characteristics, ambushing each other and even comitting premeditated murder. The book concentrates on her attempts to convince her stubborn colleagues of the discovery she's made, even though it goes completely against recorded science.
