The main character is Allie Davis. She has been in a car accident that she cannot remember. She used to have long wavy blonde hair, but now it is cut short and the back of her head were she has stitches is shaved. Allie's eyes are different, they are both brown but one eye has gold like strips running in it. Everyone used to say Allie was pretty, but now after the accident she has a scare running next to her right eye, which is the different eye. Now all she knows is that she made it out and her boyfriend Trip died in the accident.

Allie over hears her father talking about a new cop in town named Detective Weekly. He is from another state to re-open the investigation, because they feel there are things about the accident that do not make sense. It worries her because she can't remember what happened with the accident.
Allie's “old friend” Blake brings her, her homework from the classes she is taking but is not attending at school. They used to be really good friends until Allie met Trip. After she met Trip, Trip didn't want Allie to hang out with him because he wasn't with his “crowd”. After a few nights she decides to start going back to school because her parents want her to see a grief counselor, but she picks going back to school just so she doesn't have to see them.
The day she goes back to school she has Hannah, Trip's old girlfriend, glued to her side. Hannah normally, gives her looks of hatred and says snotty things to her. Hannah has always been that way towards Allie since she moved to Pacific Cliffs two years ago. Hannah is the town beauty queen.After a few weeks Allie takes her fathers truck out of town and as she is entering the middle of town,after returning from the other town. She runs into the new detective, who pulls her over, then after he realizes who she is he decides to start asking her questions, while sitting in his patrol car. As he is asking her questions Allie's father shows up and goes off on the new detective for questioning his daughter without the proper procedures in place. Needless to say when Allie gets to school the next day Hannah is giving her looks of pure hatred all because Hannah likes detective Weekly and she accuses Allie of trying to steal detective Weekly from her just like she stole Trip from her.
Allie gets suspended from school because Hannah tried to hit her and she grabbed Hannah by the arm and dug her nails into her arm, which made Hannah bleed. While suspended Allie decides to throw away all pictures,letters, and cards that Trip ever gave her. So she sneaks out of her house with Blake and goes to the cliff and throws the stuff over the cliff. But after she does that she sees the memorial headstone that they put up there for Trip because they never found his truck or his body. Then when she finally goes back to school she keeps finding notes in her locker that have Trip's handwriting on them that say things like “you belong to me”Then Blake and Allie are chosen to do the sweetheart dance committee. They are chosen by Ms. Flores the art teacher. So Blake gets everyone to agree on a historic theme for the dance. Allie has been called to see Detective Weeks that following Monday about the accident. He brings up things like someone else being at the scene of the accident. Which starts to question everything and everyone. Then Allie finds out that James has been following her everywhere she goes. He says that she murdered Trip. Then after her brother Andrew gets really sick and ends up in the hospital Allie finds out that her brother Andrew was actually the one that cut Trip's breaks on his truck. She also finds out that the night Trip died Blake was there. Blake seen Trip hit her after she told him no that she would not marry him. When Trip was headed towards the cliff they realized that Trip had no breaks. So Blake jumped out of the truck with Allie,who was unconscious at the time. After Detective Weeks tells Mr. and Mrs. Philips that he is closing the investigation because he has no proof a murder, Mr. Philips gets really angry. Mrs. Philips decides that it is time to move on. She walks out the door. But before she does she shows everyone in the room the bruises she has. Allie then tells Detective Weeks everything that Trip did to her.
Best part of story, including ending:
I really liked the fact that her brother is actually the one who cut the boyfriends breaks. Considering her brother has Cerebral Palsy. The fact that he is trying to help his sister is something amazing to me.
Best scene in story:
My favorite scene would be when Blake and Allie are at the Cotillion Dance together, sharing a dance together.
Opinion about the main character:
I like that the main character eventually learns to love herself again.
