She is a part-time volunteer at a soup kitchen what people call her "Mother Theresa Syndrome". From there we are introduced to the facet of the Crack Epidemic via a street junkie who frequents the soup kitchen Russell's friend is a critically acclaimed junkie writer who shoots heroin and ultimately dies of AIDS, from there we learn of the AIDS epidemic. All the while a tiger of some sort is out on the loose in Manhattan. This book has a wide range. we see the spirit of the 80's in it's clearest here.
