Butterfly Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Butterfly

Janet had lived in an orphanage for as long as she could remember. She had always been very small for her age, as well as very quiet. When the other children made fun of her, she told herself that she was like a butterfly, waiting to spread her wings and fly. One day, Sanford and Celine Delorice come to the orphanage to adopt her, and Janet finds out that they had been looking at her for weeks. Wondering why anyone would ever want her, she finds out that Celine, now confined to a wheelchair, used to be a dancer, and wants to fulfill her dreams through Janet. Janet tries to do what Celine asks, and even learns to respect the art of dancing.

Janet Taylor is a 12 year old girl who has been an orphan most of her life. All the children at the orphanage always teased her and called her names. She was never happy until that faithful day that Celine and Sanford Delorice came to the orphanage and picked her out as their new daughter.

As soon as they got to her new home she was given things she had never dreamed of, such as towels with her name on them. But she soon came to realize that she may not be as lucky as it seemed. Her "mother" Celine was drilling her so much with ballet that it was beginning to feel like torture, the "helper" to her dance instructor began to touch her in odd ways, and her grandparents didn't like her.
