Lucy thinks Adele needs a self-esteem boost so she can be free of her Spencer. Adele thinks Lucy is silly for dealing with her guy (Spencer). According to Lucy he is a good man just boring and predictable. Lucy wants romance and to know her man always has her best interest at heart.

Adele was raised in the church and Lucy follows the Yoruba tradition of West Africa. Other than the fact of religion and spirituality they share uncanny like interests.

Lucy decides to try out Soul Psychics for a reading. She asks for a male healer if one is available. Kuba's voice is smooth over the telephone. He asks Lucy for her birth date and the time of her birth. He tells her about love and that a good man one she is evenly yoked with is on the horizon. Without saying Spencer's name he tells her the man she thinks she loves is not for her. She calls him back frequently each time becoming more engrossed in his vision for her future.

Adele is going through a hard time at work she has to fire five people by the month's end. They aren't doing poorly the rich executives need money to vacation. Adele hates this. She knows she will benefit from the hiring of innocent people. It goes against her values to play the big bad wolf and reap benefits from hurting others. She struggles with what to do.

Lucy starts seeing Kuba in person and they share the feeling that fate has brought them together. Lucy is convinced that she should be with Kuba. When Spencer's mom dies from complications following a heart attack Lucy helps him with funeral arrangements. In her mind, she's doing it as a friend. Spencer finds out about Kuba after Lucy takes Adele to a seance Kuba has I invited her to. The weirdness of the situation makes Adele uncomfortable and she leaves before things get started. Adele is on her way to tell Spencer that Lucy has met a man and is in danger.

With Adele gone the group prepares to get into the séance. Kuba introduces Lucy to his group of friends that are gathered for the evening. One woman seems to have had an intimate relationship with Kuba and Lucy is jealous. When the ritual is over everyone leaves but Lucy. Adele shows up with Spencer who demands an explanation. Lucy can't choose between him and Kuba she isn't ready.

Kuba is doing his spiritual work and attends a funeral of someone from his spiritual community. His friend from the seance is with him. Lucy has tracked him down needing to be more sure of his feelings for her. During a spiritual ritual they make love love with drummers making beats behind them.

Kuba admonishes Lucy for showing up and states that their lovemaking this time had a different energy and her showing up uninvited has ruined their aura. Lucy is heartbroken and contacts her grandmother to help her deal with things. Afterward she has clarity if Spencer will take her back she will marry him. She'd rather stick to what she knows about men.

Adele takes a home pregnancy tests and finds she is pregnant with Thaddeus's baby. He is thrilled and supports her latest efforts. She quits her job no longer wanting to play with employee's financial situation. She registers for divinity school and preaches her first sermon.

She is going to be the best mother and wife she can while preaching the gospel.

She and Lucy go to Kuba's house to find him gone. The next door neighbor says he believes the motorcycle riding man with dreadlocks was killed in a motor accident. Lucy understands that she was supposed to learn lessons from Kuba and she has. Spencer is who her future is with.
Best part of story, including ending: I liked that Lucy finally trusted herself.

Opinion about the main character: I disliked that Lucy was so easily led by Kuba.
