Melina Catarina Angeles had taken the blame and punishment for her twin sister, Maria, too many times to count. But now Maria has committed a crime that means definite prison time and her parents are determined that Melina will take her place. Melina refuses and is disowned, left out in the cold without support. Unknown to her, Melina's brother Joe is determined to protect her from their parents forcing Melina to take Maria's prison time, so he makes a plan with rancher Luc Jardin to kidnap Melina and hold her at his ranch until it's certain Maria is arrested and finally in prison.

What Joe doesn't tell Luc is that the woman Luc thinks is Maria is actually Melina. This is because Luc has waited for years to get revenge on Maria for a crime that nearly cost his partner his life. Joe figures that if Luc assumes Melina is Maria, then he will be more willing to agree to the kidnapping. Despite Melina constantly trying to convince him of her true identity, Luc doesn't believe her. And much to his chagrin and self disgust, he finds himself falling for Maria/Melina.

It isn't until Maria comes looking for Melina --- to force her to take her place in prison --- that Luc finally realizes that he loves Melina and will protect her at all cost. In the end, Melina and Luc find true love and Melina is able to let go of the haunted nightmares of her past.
