This book begins by telling Afra's story, starting with his childhood. If you liked Afra in _The Rowan_ you'll love him here; this book has many more details about his life and his feelings about the Rowan and Jeff. The book continues with Damia, starting with her as an infant. As she grows up, her telepathic and telekinetic abilities become stronger. Although she has a large family, Damia is lonely and wants to find someone who suits her as Jeff suits the Rowan, her mother. Unfortunately, the alien who Damia believes his her match is, in fact, a danger to her and the human race.

Although the title is "Damia" Damia doesn't really come into the book until later; in the beginning it is Afra Lyon who carries the plot. Its not really a plot-book, more of a character-driven book.
