Griff Knighton is planning revenge on the man who ruined his station in society. In order to do this, he decides to switch identities with one of his good friends. While acting as a man of affairs, he can search the home of his enemy to find the document that will make things right with his family. He doesn't realize, though, that the man's daughter Rosalind would tempt him in her own way and make him seriously question his masquerade. Pride wins out, for a while, until Griff comes to the realization that having Rosiland by his side is altogether more important that society, title, or revenge. Rosalind refuses to trust Griff; she knows that he is keeping a secret, even after he tells her of his plans. However, her love for him is too strong, and she finds herself giving her heart to him little by little. When she finally finds out the whole truth, she must begin to put aside her hurt, anger, and his deception and let their love mend the circumstances that tore them apart.
