Dare is a gargoyle with major problems. Dare is a gargoyle who was born 800 years ago and forced to suffer a tragic past. Taken hostage by an age-old enemy (Harpies), Dare lost his bat-like wings and ‘barbs' used to fight and mark the ones they love. Now awaked from an 800 year frozen state, Dare and his gargoyle brothers live with their friend Mackenzie to help them navigate a greatly changed world. Dare, still suffering from tragic memories and feelings of insufficiency, fights his attraction to Mim, Mackenzie's best friend. Dare sees all his brothers/ cousins as better fits fro Mim and refuses to even be cordial while Mim fights her own feelings of insecurity. As Mim learns about the gargoyle's past and Dare's tragic loses she quickly begins to create a plan to help him with the help of his cousin Victor. Dare sees Mim and Victor's growing relationship and further closes himself off from everyone, trying to accept the fact that he will never be good enough. When Mim finally surprises Dare with a handcrafted set of wings so that he may fly again Dare finally puts away his self pity and admits his love to Mim. Dare and Mim's new love brings back the barbs Dare once thought was destroyed that in turn acted as a homing single to the evil Harpies. Mim is soon captured and held ransom by the Harpy but Dares undying love aids him in slaying the monster and claiming Mim forever.
