For the Post Epidemic Year 106 (2176 for those of you from Bonzai's time), Fortress Canada has thrived by isolating itself from the troubles that have wracked the globe especially that nation to the south. Canadian Royal Mountie Police Day Daniel has no time to mourn the death of her partner as she is on the trail of the terrorists who killed him. However, her superiors assign Day with a new partner, civilian plague hunter Dr. Liam Firebird. His quest is to stop a militant group from releasing a deadly virus on the Canadian people. Though Day finds her new associate handsome, she cannot stand how he blithely ignores all the rules as they trek towards the Citadel and a confrontation with the Shadow Voice whose broadcast of treason is dangerous for one and all.
This fabulous science fiction romance is a terrific follow up to the excellence standard set by Susan Grant (see THE LEGEND OF BONZAI MAGUIRE) in the first “Five Women, One Goal: Freedom” tale. The story line is action-packed as the audience observes a nation that is not in the midst of the battling alliances. Still with this insight, the key to the novel rests with the lead couple, as opposite of a pair as one will find except for two common traits: they love deeply and forever and obsess over what they cherish. The second of five authors with one goal: entertainment, Kathleen Nance provides a triumphant story that readers who appreciate a futuristic world setting starring strong protagonists will cherish.
