Justine, a successful copywriter at a Liverpool advertising agency, is planning her wedding to Adam, a local doctor. The only fly in the ointment at first is her stalker Matthew, a psycho whose obsession becomes more dangerous the more she tells him to get lost, and whose long-suffering girlfriend Tracey has just finished with him.

The horror of his fixation intensifies when he tries to kill anybody in his way. A security guard and receptionist in Justine's office, which is where he goes in order to break into the personnel records and get his hands on a copy of her CV, are only the first of many to die at his hands. Nobody is safe from his murderous instincts, least of all the family next door. Even his mother Paula begins to fear for her life after she finds his collection of bondage mags.
Adam is worried when Justine won't go out anywhere, despite her determination not to let Matthew win. Then her best friend Donna lets her down, as she is keen on Adam herself and accompanies him on a short conference to London just before the wedding – with the inevitable result.
Justine also has admirers, quite apart from Matthew. Paul, a dealer in commodities whose marriage is failing, is fond of her, but he is also being stalked by Russian entrepreneurs who see him as easy prey for a few bucks. Keeping them sweet while trying to fathom out his feelings for Justine makes everyone's life even more complicated.
