Dirty Jokes and Beer: Stories of the Unrefined is a fair warning for what you will get with Drew Carey's 1997 autobiographical book. He tells his life story of growing up in working class Cleveland, Ohio as a normal "average Joe" in the 1960's. He reveals startlingly personal information about being sexually molested as a young man, before joining the Marine Corp (Yes, he is an ex-marine!). His road to Hollywood as a stand-up comic, his big break, and his television career up until 1997 are all included in the narrative.

This book is not for the easily offended as it is laced with gratuitous profanity, vulgarity, and crude sexist jokes. In fact, each chapter starts with a particularly funny if not very vulgar joke. Mr. Carey does not apologize for liking strip joints, drinking a lot with friends, hanging out in Las Vegas and acting like a big kid nor should he have to. It is his life story and no one is being forced to read his book or watch his television shows. Based on his current popularity, Mr. Carey has a lot of company in fans of beer and dirty jokes.
