Dane develops a sexual attraction to Marlie despite believing she is a 'nutcase'. He delves into her past and discovers some very hard truths about just what Marlie sufferd in her teens as a result of her abilities.

Marlie feels this attraction but fights it out of fear. As her trust of Dane grows, she falls in love with him. He places that love at risk with a betrayal that rocks Marlie to the core even though she understands the reason behind it.

As the story progresses, Marlie and Dane chase a madman who enjoys making his victims suffer...and turns his attentions to Marlie.
