Drop Dead, Gorgeous! Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Drop Dead, Gorgeous!

Jenny works as a hair assistant for Caitlyn and Dmitri, unaware that they work as spies. Jenny's job as an assistant hair dresser to Caitlyn and Dmitri James is always full of outbursts, tempers, and human connections. She expends a lot of emotional energy that was not in her job description. Caitlyn's best friend Stacey is marrying a guy Caitlyn despises. “The Boss” runs a lot of things in town and Stacey gets caught up in the madness, by proxy.   As do Caitlyn's and Jenny.

During the ceremony The Boss is shot and collapses. He knows a lot of people want revenge for the pain and suffering he has cost them. He is the only person not surprised that someone tried to execute him.

Jenny gets an assignment that she has to carry out or she will be killed. She didn't sign up for this job. She beats herself up emotionally for being so entangled in Caitlyn and Dmitri's lives. The Boss wants her to get the man who shot at him during his wedding ceremony to work for him. He wants to use him as an undercover source to find out who really wants him dead. The Boss didn't die when a bullet aimed for his chest hit a bullet proof vest. Her mission won't be easy.

Kevin likes Jenny when he meets her, The trained assassin is not prepared for being turned on by Jenny. She uses her power of seduction to get him to talk and she encourages him to come over and work for The Boss. He sees through her game and pulls a gun on her. They tussle and in what can only be described as a miracle she flips the script and takes his gun. He tells her he doesn't feel like messing up her “pretty” face. Kevin tells Jenny that if he wanted The Boss dead he would have aimed for his head. Jenny brings Kevin to The Boss as instructed.

Kevin is the son of a former mob moss who turned his skills into something that would help lock the bad guys in the government away. Jenny is well tired of watching the excitement of Caitlyn and Dmitri from the sidelines. She wants her own thing, to be in control of her destiny, especially if it means beating the bad guys. Kevin seems like the better choice of a work partner. He's willing to train her because he saw how she was able to remain calm when they were fighting over his gun.

Jenny gets a lot of on the job training. Excitement of her own is what she needs after taking daft orders working for Caitlyn and by extension “The Boss.” The piece of power she felt grabbing Kevin's gun lit a fire in her that she can hardly explain in words. Now that she has tasted power she wants to feel it all the time.

The Boss has a daughter. Charmer is like her dad, ruthless. She tried to kill Stacey when she visited her dad. He and Stacey were not married yet, but she was enroute to becoming the aggressive young woman's step-mom. She landed in prison for other crimes and The Boss” is willing to let her stay there to teach her a lesson on loyalty.

Jenny and Kevin fall in love as special ops-agents and have fun at work and during their long nights together. They are a good fit. The Boss makes their appointments official. He is willing to cut down on the bad assignments and send them out on work detail that they can feel good about. Kevin is too highly trained to let his dad's legacy of shutting down the bad guys go to waste. Jenny finally has work that she loves and has found Kevin who meets the criteria for being her man. .
Best part of story, including ending: I disliked Stacey and thought as a main character she caused a lot of trouble.

Best scene in story: My favorite scene was Jenny and Kevin hooking up.

Opinion about the main character: I thought Jenny handled a lot of extra responsibility as an assistant hair stylist.
