Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Eclipse of the Sun

"Eclipse of the Sun" is the story of eight-year-old Arrow Delaney, target of a ruthless totalitarian government. The government wants to silence what Arrow witnessed when a government SWAT team eliminated members of a hippie commune and then killed nuns in a nearby religious convent. Arrow and his mother lived in the commune. The mother was killed, but Arrow escaped. He is later captured but escapes again by jumping out of a police van, running through the woods, hopping a freight train, getting off near a junk yard, and hiding there.

The sympathetic owner of the junk yard takes him in. She, Alice Douglas, herself, is wary of the government's growing oppression. When Arrow gets sick, Alice and a friend try to help him by admitting Arrow to a hospital as the friend's child. Caught, after Arrow was discharged, the friend is arrested for questioning and "disappears." The friend's husband, working through his political representatives, puts enough pressure on the government that they finally release his wife.

The government eventually discovers where Arrow is hiding. Alice Douglas holds the special investigators at gunpoint while Arrow escapes. At the novel's end, Arrow is taken to a remote place of safe refuge while the government experiences its last desperate grasp for power before true peace finally comes.
