The hero, Alexandre, is a synesthete, meaning he sees sounds and hears colors, and readers get a fascinating walk through his mind as we read from his POV. He's learned to hide his gift because others ridicule. His deceased wife called him afflicted, and only married him because they had an affair which left her pregnant with twins. The story begins a few months after her death. His daughters, Lisette, and Janette are 4 years old, and you just want to squeeze them, they are so cute. Margot's acceptance of Alexandre's abilities and her playful spirit win over the small family, and the girls begin to heal from their mother's loss. When the Baron of Blunders shows up and takes Margot away, Alexandre realizes he is losing the love of his life. Now it's up to the King of Oranges to Rescue the Princess of Practically Everything.
