The year is 2134 and Marty Rooney is heading home from
his job in Queens, New York, where he works as a Nutritional Engineer, designing synthetic foods for a world that has long ago exceeded its population limit. But before he can arrive safely, a cataclysmic event occurs which obliterates parts of Europe and the Middle East. Its effects are felt all around the world as an asteroid of mammath proportions has collided with the Earth.

Marty soon finds himself at the sanctuary of his home, only to find that whatever it was that he had experienced earlier in the afternoon has had a more widespread effect on the region. He and his wife, along with a neighbor, who seem to be the only survivors to the destruction, decide that they would be safer somewhere else, and so they begin their journey to find a more hospitable place for their group to be rescued by a formerly oppressive and cruel regime.
Marty's plan is not altogether original as it appears that survivors everywhere in the world are following the same pattern, attempting to cluster in government undergound shelters in order to ride out the current disaster.
Meanwhile, the dictatorial Government of Harold Anderson
has already anticipated this event, and the population's subsequent actions, and sees this step as a last chance at either total subjugation of the North American Continent, or a real fight for survival, as several groups of freedom fighters have already decided they will take advantage of this disaster in a fight for ultimate freedom from oppression. Marty Rooney soon finds himself caught up in the plans of a charismatic rebel named Ricky Sharp, whom he meets at one of the underground shelters.
