Forged in Fire Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Forged in Fire

Two people with psychic powers fall in love, but meet just in time to stop a deadly drug cartel from carrying out a terrorist plot, and they must stop the criminals while resisting falling in love with each other. This was one of those novels where you just don't expect it to be good because the Fabio on the cover made you laugh so hard. But this is actually a pretty well put together tale.

Beth and Zane encounter each on the the most un-romantic meet-cute ever. Zane - a tall, handsome Navy SEAL - and his friends are about to board a plane for a friend's wedding when a strange and attractive woman stops them at the airport. This is Beth, who has had a frightening dream that a man who looks just like Zane dies on the plane amidst a hijacking. This part gave me chills a little,

Beth is not the only one with this gift. Zane has the power of precognition too and has sensed that something is going to happen on the plane. He is immediately and tenderly drawn to Beth for warning him, and believes her. His senses also tell him that Beth is his soul mate, the person he was always meant to end up with. Zane is not fazed by this since Beth is beautiful, and he immediately is attracted to her. Beth is also immediately attracted to him.

Beth points out the terrorists in the airport since she recognizes them from her dream. They thankfully do not look Middle-Eastern, a bright spot in this otherwise ludicrous plot. The SEALS manage to get three of the terrorists, but two escape, leading the SEALs on a man hunt that Beth, for some reason, joins in on. The bloody trail that is uncovered when Zane and Beth investigate the terrorists' backgrounds and connections leads to a network of brothels and drug manufacturers all controlled by a powerful cartel originating in South America. They learn, from speaking to rape victims who have escaped, that the cartel has a terrible plan to overtake the US government from within to further expand the drug trade, and they have already infiltrated the FBI. One of the undercover cartel spies finds out what they're after and suddenly Zane and Beth are running for their lives.

Everyone who tries to interfere with the cartel gets kidnapped and murdered. They learn to work together. They escape death twice by learning how to communicate telepathically with each other, and are frustrated that they cannot let loose their extremely intense sexual desires for each other. When they catch the last terrorist, Beth guides Zane to the terrorist with her mind and Zane is able to kill him - a vicious death. But they don't get married. Zane has another mission to go on, and is afraid to endanger Beth, but also is selfishly running away from intimacy. It's all very poorly explained and there doesn't seem any real reason for it other than to manufacture drama. The lovers part, having only known each other for a very short while, and it remains to be seen if they are reunited in another novel. I will not be sticking around to watch.
Best part of story, including ending: Hated this book. Very poorly researched, characters have ridiculous reactions to each other.

Best scene in story: The way Zane and Beth finally indulge in some of their sexual tension with a steamy private make out session in a storage space.

Opinion about the main character: Beth was idiotic. Didn't listen to instructions, constantly put herself in danger. It was exhausting to read of her stupidity in an already dumb book.
