Evelyn Couch feels isolated and condemned by the world, but she gains strength through Mrs. Threadgoode who she meets in a nursing home. There are different types of chapters - one is a woman in a nursing home (1980s) telling a 40ish insecure woman about her small hometown of Whistle Stop, another type of chapter is the story she is telling.
