This is the first book in this series, which is centered around a group of teens living on the Upper East Side in New York City. With her best friend gone, Blair is now the most popular and prettiest girl at school. However, when Serena comes back from boarding school, things start to change. Everyone has started to pay attention to Serena again and are ignoring Blair, even Blair's boyfriend, Nate. Serena is then ignored by Blair, as Blair begins spreading nasty rumors about her. Serena can't seem to understand why her best friend is treating her this way.
