I Am Number Four Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of I Am Number Four

John Smith is an alien. He is not just an alien, but he's one of the last nine aliens left of his planet. Together with his guardian, Henri, he must hide from the aliens hunting them, the Mogadorians, until he finishes growing up. John Smith is not the real name of the teenager arriving to the small town Paradise in Ohio. In fact, he does not have a name - he is simply Number Four. A few years prior to the book's beginning, a huge battle between Four's people to their enemies, the Mogadorians, has began, and ended with the death of all of his people except for nine children and their nine guardians. They were then sent to Earth in order to protect them, so when the time comes, they can return to their planet and create everything from the start.

Four's guardian is Henri, who knows him ever since he was a little child, back in their home planet. He looks after him and makes sure no Mogadorian will ever catch them. After hearing something about a Mogadorian nearby, the two leave and make their way to Paradise, Ohio.
In Paradise, Four, or as he is called there, John Smith, meets a teenager girl named Sarah. He falls in love with her, but is unable to start dating her because of her ex-boyfriend, who torments him. He also meets a teenage boy named Sam, whose father has supposedly been kidnapped by aliens. He and Sam become best friends.
Later during that year, it turns out that Sam knows about the Mogadorians, since he believes they kidnapped his father. His hypothesis turns out to be true - his father helped Henri and was kidnapped by the Mogadorians. John reveals his true identity to him, and later, when Henri is taken by their enemies, uses his aid to rescue his guardian.
After rescuing Henri, the guardian insists that they leave Paradise. John refuses. They continue to develop his magical abilities, called legacies, and John develops a close relationship with Sarah. Henri tries to warn him of the Mogadorians, but John refuses to leave.
During a fire, John uses his legacies to rescue Sarah. He then reveals everything to her, but lies to Henri about telling her. However, a video on YouTube reveals his secrets, and the Mogadorians come to find him. Nuber Six arrives as well, and helps him and Henri battle against them. The book ends with the end of the battle, in which Henri died. Six, Sam and Four are headed away from Paradise.
Best part of story, including ending: I enjoyed the story because it is a fun, well written science fiction.

Best scene in story: I didn't have a favorite scene.

Opinion about the main character: I dislike how John believes he knows better than Henri - a typical teenage trait, but I still dislike it.
