Emily Kingston is a young kindergarten teacher who has traveled to Kazban to ask Crown Prince Sheikh Zakour al-Farisi for an extension on the debt her brother owes. Zak is the ruler of his kingdom, and life experiences have taught him not to trust anyone, especially women. He is a cynical man who firmly believes that Emily is involved in her brother's dishonest dealings, and has been sent to seduce him.

At first Zak decides to make Emily his "hostage guest" until her brother pays him the money he owes, but in a short time his attraction to her compels him to make her an offer: If she marries him, he'll cancel her brother's debt. He's in for a rude awakening when he discovers she isn't a seductress at all, but an innocent virgin.
