Hailed as an isolated tribe, living a stone-age life and never before having contact with outside civilization, they were admired by such luminaries as Charles Lindbergh and Gina Lollabridgida. But then doubts crept in as the journalists and anthropoligist arrived. Hoax? Exageration? Hemley starts from the begining and examines all evidence. The book gets a bit confusing at time with personal names unfamiliar to American readers and the blow-by-blow he said/she said/they said aspect of the case is sometimes tiresome. However, this book delivers the promise that the truth is more subtle and complex than can be delivered by a headline.
