At first things are good, but eventually Darin can't keep up with John's wild antics. John begins to smoke weed and sleep with lots of women. John, or Loverboy as he is more commonly known, is also dealing with the fact that his mother does not approve of his profession. She feels that he should be singing in the church. Also, she refuses to tell John who his father is. Eventually he discovers that his father is a minister. John becomes very disturbed.

Darin and John begin to grow apart. John begins to exhibit even more reckless behavior while Darin starts to yearn for a different lifestyle, away from John.
