Erich Segal's "Love Story" written almost as an advertisement to the Movie "Love Story" before its release, is a short, sweet and somewhat superficial story of young love between two Ivy League scholars. Set in 1970, and written as a contemporary novel, Love Story explores the reminisces of a young widower as he looks back on the short time he had with his young wife. The novel's dialogue is quick, funny and fresh even by today's standards. A sub plot explores the protagonist's aristocratic background and his estranged relationship with his father and his need for acceptance without petitioning it. Short, sweet and timeless. You can read this book in a good two hours.
