|Plot Summary of Mackerel Sky|
St. Martin's, Oct 2004, 23.95, 272 pp.
Guy Caple grew up in Montreal amongst a family known for typically being on the wrong side of the law: When he was sixteen, Guy panicked over the pregnancy of his older girlfriend Martine and fled to Boston when Isabelle was born.
Two decades later, Guy returns to his hometown to meet the daughter he abandoned at birth and never met. He is a bit shocked to find Martine living with twenty-two years old Harry as she has for the past five years. He soon learns that his former girlfriend, her lover, and his daughter are running a counterfeiting ring. Fearing for Isabel's safety he plans to persuade the two human females to stop before they get caught, but instead joins their plans that fall apart as underground thugs want the quartet dead.
This is an amusing crime romp that will keep readers laughing and riveted as Guy and company go from one catastrophe to another. The four are delightful characters with each containing unique personalities that together make them inefficient and ineffective. The sexual encounters add to the sublime fast-paced Canadian counterfeit caper that never slows down until the final stunner.
