Majesty, Mistress... Missing Heir Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Majesty, Mistress... Missing Heir

The main character is small town British woman of no particular physical import, Jessa Heath. She is not classically beautiful, rich, of nobility like the secondary main character, or attractive in any other way. She is actually quite plain and normal. Her main goal is to protect her son who she had out of wedlock with the second main character. The second main character is a dashing king, Tariq Bin Khaled Al Nur, of a far away land called Nur.

The story starts out with Tariq stepping off the grey UK streets into Jessa's letting agency office. Rattled, but attempting to seem otherwise, Jessa tries to get him to leave by insulting him and telling him the past should stay in the past. After reopening some wounds the two part temporarily.

Jessa works at an investing firm which Tariq is using. She is drawn to him. They have a few weeks of passion. She goes to the doctor one day and realizes she is pregnant. She takes a couple days away from him to get her head straight and she makes a decision to tell Tariq, but when she comes back Tariq is gone. His flat is empty, he has withdrawn his investments from the firm, and he has left the country. She sees his face all over the t.v. as the person he truly is, the nephew of a king. He is not the simple son of a doctor he claimed to be.All of his remaining family having died, he is now the king of Nur.

Meanwhile Jessa is blacklisted from any jobs in the city she was employed in so she goes back home to her sister's house fully disillusioned and depressed. After unsuccessfully contacting Tariq she makes a decision on her own. She carries the child and has the baby boy, Jeremy. After four months with the child she realizes she is not fit to keep the baby and gives the baby up for adoption.

Five years goes by and she think she is fully over Tariq but then he shows up on her doorstep almost. He wants one night with her to get her out of his system and move on to marry an appropriate queen and have heirs. She reluctantly agrees knowing he wont leave until he gets what he wants. She feels she can protect Jeremy by keeping him a secret.

He flies her to Paris and they have a full night of passion. The next morning Tariq finds that she has obvious evidence of pregnancy on her body and demands to know where the child is. He threatens her in the hopes that she will tell him where the child is. Jessa pretends not to know what he is talking about. When Tariq leaves her alone she essentially runs from his massive home thinking she can protect her son by not telling his father about him. Unbeknownst to her Tariq has ordered his men to follow her. She walks in the rain to the train station barely holding her emotions in check. She realizes only after she gets to the station that she has no money having left her bank card in the UK.

Tariq appears and takes the bedraggled mess that is Jessa Heath back to his Paris home where she dries off. He asks her in a less threatening way to tell him if he is a father detailing his sad family history. He was orphaned young and taken in only on duty by his Uncle. He was always painfully aware of his place or rather his non-place in his family. He broods, battling his demons and remembering what his Uncles last words to him were.

Jessa agrees to tell him everything she knows. After their conversation she cries herself to sleep and he makes some phone calls to see if he can get his son back. Tariq does not know that there is one crucial truth Jessa is holding back. The British government likely wont allow it so resolves to let it go for the time being. There is no mention of Jessa going home and something has changed between them. They are finally like equals grieving for the loss of the same person. For a while Jessa and Tariq live a blissful a fantasy as they can having convuluted their history together.

After a while pressing matters in Nur call for Tariqs physical presence in the country. He asks Jessa to come but she basically refuses. However, Tariq takes no refusal.

Jessa calls her sister to informm her that she will be traveling. Her sister is upset and warns Jessa that Tariq will hurt her again. After the call ends Tariq asks Jessa who she was talking to. Jessa appearing guilty tells him who she was talking to. Tariq puts two and two together remember a picture of Jessa's sister with her family. The child in photo was olive toned and dark haired. Angered he pulls the truth from Jessa. Jessa pleads Tariq to leave Jeremy alone. He does not listen.

He takes Jessa and they go to her sisters' house. Jessa pleads with him one last time at the gate of the cottage to let the boy alone telling him that Jeremy is happy and secure and not be ripped from the only home he has ever known. Jeremy and his mother appear causing a highly awkward situation. Jeremy's mother stands in the doorway as Jeremy toddles toward Tariq. Jeremy asks who Tariq is. Tariq who had been transfixed only says he is Tariq and nothing more before the boy toddles back to his mother who protectively cuddles him.
Jessa thanks Tariq and tries to comfort him.
Jessa tells him that she understands if he wants to leave her. He tells her she is all he has left and they plan to go to Nur together.

In Nur Jessa and Tariq mourne together, their grief connecting them. For a while they live in a fantasy but when Tariq addresses the issue of marriage Jessa says she understands and prepares to go home to England. Tariq reminds her that does not bring women he is not going to "keep" to his country and proposes marriage to her. She accepts and the ends with the couple kissing.
Best part of story, including ending: I like how the adoption of Tariq and Jessa's son ties the two together instead of splitting them apart.
I really hate that the two main characters always seem to be playing a mismatched game of virtual chess. Jessa and Tariq can't seem to have an adult conversation until the very end and that is just really annoying. I understand it is kind of what makes the story but I hate it.

Best scene in story: My favorite scene happens outside of Jessa's sisters' house. Tariq sees his son for the first time toddling around and he is transfixed. Untimately he allows Jeremy to stay with his family instead of ripping him away.

Opinion about the main character: I like that Jessa was smart enough to know that she could not properly care for her son and she was strong enough to let him go.
