Mary was raised in France, and sent to Scotland at the age of 18. Unfamiliar with Scottish politics, she tried to establish a cordial relationship with her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I, and be named her heir. Famous for her tragic end, she was imprisoned and eventually executed by Elizabeth.
