Raphael Giscard, Viscount de Fontvilliers, is a man who has been jaded against love due to his parents jaded ways. Julia Brodie comes a wealthy family, but is not part of the elite Ton. To prove herself, she has been the epitome of good behavior, even falling in love with the proper man. When she encounters Raphael, she feels an undeniable pull towards him, that totally overshadows the tepid feelings she has for Simon. After several "coinidental" encounters, she allows herself to be seduced by Raphael, feeling that she is in love with him.
When it is found out that she has been ruined, Raphael is forced to ask for her hand. A marriage that started out rocky, is forced through even more obstacles as Julia finds out about the wager. The couple is forced through many trials before they find there path of true love.
