A New Lu Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of A New Lu

Lu Nichols is a 50 year old married mother of two adult children working for a stylish magazine for older women. Lu's life is turned upside down when her husband Jacob demands a divorce. When Lu's visit to a doctor's office provides the shocking news that she's pregnant, Lu can't believe her ears. Then Lu flashes back to the "closure" weekend she spent with her ex, Jacob, in the Caribbean where they engaged in unprotected sex. Suddenly, Lu is thrust into a whole new frightening reality. When her close friends and a female doctor advise Lu to terminate the pregnancy, Lu realizes how much she has grown to love the life inside of her. William Templeton, the kind, sexy doctor who first informed Lu of her pregnancy has become a friend and confidante. Still mourning the death of his wife, William provides a strong shoulder for Lu to lean on. Although William and Lu make love and share a connection, William tells Lu that she won't know where she's going until she tells Jacob about the baby. When Lu informs Jacob about the pregnancy he is floored by the news and unsupportive. Suddenly, Lu realizes that she's on her own for the first time in her life. As Lu takes on single motherhood, divorce and mid-life dating she begins to transform into a whole new Lu.
