When Brandy Alexander, a young woman in her late twenties, comes home to South Philadelphia to participate in her friend's wedding, she is unprepared for the events that follow.
Her best friend John's boat is "accidentally" blown up--with her friend on it! Everyone keeps telling Brandy it was an unfortunate accident, but Brandy knows better. In the days before the boating accident, John told her he had taken pictures of a young man who ended up being murdered. He took the pictures to the police, but now John feels he's being followed. Brandy is sure John was murdered and that there is some kind of police cover-up.
To add to Brandy's problems, one of the cops she suspects is her old boyfriend, who she is still in love with.
Brandy begins to investigate and finds out some very disturbing information about city contracts, crooked cops and the mayor's office. She gets help from Nick Santiago, a gorgeous but dangerous guy who knows a lot about the underside of the city.
Through perserverance and sheer luck, Brandy manages to uncover the secrets of the city.

Brandy Alexander is a 28 year old reporter, born and raised in South Philadelphia. She now lives in Los Angeles. When her friend, Franny gets married, Brandy returns to Philly to attend the wedding. This is a painful trip for her, since she'd left there four years ago, after she broke up with her long time boyfriend, Bobby DiCarlo. Bobby is now a detective on the Phila. police department, working homicide.
While Brandy is in town, her best friend, John, tells her he was taking pictures at a friend's birthday party and one of the people he took a picture of ended up being murdered later that night. Thinking his pictures may help catch the killer, he contacts the police, who take the pictures from John. Shortly afterwards, John tells Brandy he feels like he is being followed. A few days later, John is out on his boat and it blows up. Brandy is convinced it was no accident, althought the police feel otherwise.
Brandy suspects a police cover-up and even has her doubts about her former lover, Bobby. Her investigation leads her to Nick Santiago who uses his street smarts to help Brandy gather information. Their investigation uncovers major political scandal.

Brandy Alexander is a young woman from South Philadelphia, with a big mouth, an even bigger heart and a little problem with impulse control.
When Brandy (a puff piece reporter for a local Los Angeles TV news station) returns to her hometown, after a four year absence, she is thrilled to be reunited with friends and family. But her joy is short-lived when her best friend, John, becomes the victim of a tragic accident. Brandy is alone in thinking that the death is no “accident,” and as she sets out to prove her theory, she stumbles upon a political scandal of major proportions.
Things begin to heat up when it appears that her former boyfriend, police detective Robert Anthony DiCarlo, is involved in sabotaging the investigation. The one thing Brandy knows for sure is that people keep turning up dead, and if she doesn't get some answers, fast, she could end up on the short list. As Brandy searches out the truth, she gains some unexpected allies, including sexy, dangerous, street-savvy Nicholas Santiago, and the now-married Bobby, who still holds a torch for his former girlfriend.
