Jordan Hadlock is an American living in Lucerne, Switzerland, and working at a book/news shop. When a random storm forces photographer Reeves Grant to seek shelter in her shop, he finds himself mesmerized by the sight of beautiful Jordan. When the storm intensifies and the shop loses power, Jordan invites Reeves to stay over in her apartment upstairs. Reeves gratefully accepts the offer and makes love by candlelight. Jordan confides in Reeves and tells him about the untimely death of her estranged husband, which served as a major catalyst for Jordan to leave the States. Reeves proves to be senstive and caring listener. Ultimately, the two give in to their blazing chemistry and make love. When Jordan awakens the next morning she is humiliated to discover that Reeves is gone. Unbeknownst to Jordan, Reeves left her place only to check in to his hotel. Jordan fears that Reeves views her as a slutty one night stand. When Reeves returns later in the day Jordan hides upstairs in her apartment and pretends she's not home. That evening Reeves is shocked to see Jordan on the arm of wealthy Swiss industrialist, Helmut Eckherdt at a ritzy party. Reeves has been assigned to work on a feature of Helmut Eckherdt for an American magazine and he has been invited to the party as part of his job. During the party Helmut announces his engagement to Jordan and Reeves finds himself both perplexed and sickened by Jordan's actions. At the end of the evening Reeves confronts Jordan and basically calls her a prostitute, which earns him a slap in the face. Jordan and Reeves are forced to work together, since Helmut insists on having Jordan photographed by Reeves as part of his feature. Jordan and Reeves can't deny their lingering attraction and Jordan tells Reeves that she doesn't love Helmut and was bullied into their engagement. As Reeves and Jordan restart their affair behind Helmut's back, Jordan must summon all her courage to end her affair with Reeves or break Helmut's heart.
