The series has focused on horses being healed but as the books continue more attention is centered on the human relationships which are healing and growing as well.

Heartland hasn't been the same since Amy's mother died one night, trying to save a horse. Heartland was built to help the hurt and scars of the past, and be a safe haven for abused horses, but it is more than the horses that need a place to let their hurts go, and learn to trust again. It is the Amy, her sister and her grandfather who also need to learn to trust and heal.
