Princess Andromedia of Acadia is a failure as a princess. She is not beautiful (she wears glasses), does not remember all the rules of royalty (too busy reading), and wants to help her mother with something other than marrying a prince. Unfortunately, her mother, the beautiful Queen Cassiopeia, doesn't want a daughter at all. Desperate for her mother's attention and love, the young princess soon forces her mother to recognize her with scholarly research into the problems facing their kingdom. When Princess Andromedia discovers too much infomation on the increase of ship wrecks in their kingdom, however, Queen Cassiopeia and her evil chief advisor Solon come up with an twisted fairy tale solution.

Into this busy sea port of a kingdom a dragon appears to wreck destruction and bring terror to the citizens of this once rich country. After several dragon attacks, Princess Andromedia discovers the most common way to appease a dragon is to offer it young virgins. Disgusted by the speed that the government and her mother jump on the deadly solution, Princess Andromedia tries another approach. For in this story there is a twist. Fairy tale stories happen all the time and with the force of the power of Tradition behind them, it can take all the power of a Fairy Godmother to change the ending. Princess Andromedia sends a message to the closest Fairy Godmother to send a Champion Knight to challenge the marauding dragon. Unfortunately for her, evil chief advisor Solon is more than a friend to her mother and a powerful sorcerer in his own right. He casts a spell that "no man inteding to slay the dragon can pass the Arcadian borders". Soon enough, Princess Andromedia finds herself chosen by a "blind lot" to save her kingdom by becoming dragon food.
Refusing to be a damsel in distress, Princess Andromedia plans on survival. Her servants and guards plant weapons all over and she has a princess's share of treasure hidden on her body. Suddenly in the middle of the dragon's approach and Andromedia's escape a knight in shining armor appears to battle the dragon. Unfortunately, the knight isn't doing too good until Princess Andromedia joins in and then the dragon mysteriously leaves without killing either of them. With the power of Tradition practically guarenteeing the brave knight and saved princess fall in love, the two decide to swear track this dragon to its lair without a romantic entanglement.
Following the dragon's trail introduces the two adventures to a weird assortment of fairy tale stock creatures: shifty foxes, virgin obsessed unicorns, and shy fauns. Then in another twist to the story it turns out the dragon is actually a victim as well. Adamant or Adam the Bookwrym dragon is under the control of a sorcerer who holds one of his scales. Following his compulsion, he has to wreck destruction and take the virgins, but no one can make him eat one. He thinks it is disgusting. Princess Andromedia soon befriends Adam the dragon and his brother Periapt while the good Knight George starts training all the angry virgins into a ragged company of attack troops. Together they plan an attack on the palace and Solon to bring peace and justice back to Acadia. During the planning, Princess Andromedia realizes that her mother the queen had to be in on all the shipwrecks, summoning the dragon, and even sacrificing her own daughter.
Using the power of Tradition to help a ragged company of good girls and dragons to take on an all powerful evil duo, they sneak into the palace. But now the evil advisor Solon has turned on his queen partner and with a love spell has her completely under his control. When the small fighting team finally gets into the palace, the Guard members that helped Andromedia escape, follow her orders against the queen and the evil advisor clearly in control of her. Violence and death follow in the attack but there is still another surprise in the wings about who becomes the next ruler in Acadia.
