This is a rags to riches to rags tale about the meteoric rise to fame of the band Three Dog Night. Jimmy Greenspoon spares few details in telling the band's penchant for groupies, hard drugs and alcohol, and the fast life when they were the world's biggest pop rock band in the late 60's and early 70's. Starting with their founding in 1968, Three Dog Night had an incredible run of popular hit songs including Joy To The World, One, Black and White, Shambala, Mama Told Me (Not To Come), and Old Fashioned Love Song. The original band members; Danny Hutton, Cory Wells, Chuck Negron, Joe Schermie, Floyd Sneed, Michael Alsup, and Jimmy Greenspoon; toured the world playing concerts to huge audiences, put out a lot of records and made a small fortune. Just as quickly the money was gone, spent on drugs, booze, and a fast, lavish lifestyle.

Eventually, the lifestyle took a toll and the band members went their separate ways. The shattered life of band mates was testimony to the corrupting power of wealth and fame when one is without the brains or discipline to make either last. The book may cause the reader to shake their head in disbelief at the level of stupidity achieved or feel sympathy for the many weaknesses that they had. of fame and popularity and probably deserved a better fate.
