Forced to leave her boyfriend Ray and her best friend Lizzie, Ruby sets off with a bleak outlook, determined to hate the man she is going to be living with. It's harder, she finds, than she thought it would be. She likes her father's blustery, gay personal assitant, Max. As she tries to assimilate into a world so different from her own, she slowly starts to make a few friends and is faced with the question: "Will life ever be normal again?"
