Everything quickly changes though from there, when a young woman appears. She has a small abused boy in tow with her. And she claims that Kyra gave her up for adoption 16 years ago, and that Jesse is her grandson. Kyra, knowing this is not true, yet sees the boy's obvious neglect, agrees to keep Jesse.
As it turns out after adopting Jesse, Kyra finds he is no ordinary child. He becomes quite ill suddenly, and the problem he faces is the worst news possible. Kyra is then forced to face a very hard choice, and that is whether or not she should honor the life-or-death decision on her son.
