Reason follows the story of an awakened gargoyle whose feelings of loyalty to his gargoyle family conflict with his new feelings for Elaina. Reason, second in command to his newly awakened gargoyle pack, is struggling to adapt to a modern world. With the help of his family and a few human friends the pack is finally somewhat safe from an ancient enemy called harpies (giant flying ugly versions of gargoyles). While physical safety is somewhat assured, Reasons heart is another story. When college freshmen, Elaina, comes asking questions Reason fights his initial attraction in order to protect their secrecy. He however must also accompany her to college in order to protect the secret which she eventually discovered and also protect her from harpies who saw them together. Using sarcasm and rudeness to hide his growing feelings, Reason pushes Elaina farther away. Elaina is not easily deterred though, she knows Reason has a hidden heart and constantly challenges and even protects him from a stalking harpy. Once Elaina is taken Reason is forced to face his true feelings for her and won't stop till her finds and rescues her. Once he does and kills the kidnapping harpy, he finally makes Elaina his in the ancient gargoyle tradition of marking her with his symbol to cement their love.
