Will Graham is a forensic specialist currently recovering from a previous case when he is approached by federal authorities to aid them in the search for a brutal murderer of two families. The murders have occured one month apart and they are afraid he will continue his brutal acts in another month. The murders are particularly gruesome and involve all the member of the famillies.

Graham is a reluctant sleuth as he has a family he does not want to endanger or involve in any way and he is recovering from a previous encounter however he agrees to help.
He is constantly hounded by a particularly annoying reporter for a sensationalist tabloid. The reporter is killed and Graham feels responsible although he did not like or encourage the reporter.

Graham consults Hannibal Lecter, a sociopathic genuis whom he put away-- almost at the cost of his own life. Amazingly, Lector makes a connection with the family murderer and causes even more problems for the FBI. The killer beleives he is "becoming" and revels in his new being. As time ticks by, he grows increasingly agitated and begins to make mistakes that help lead the FBI to him. But will it be in time to save future murder victims and protect Will and his
family from certain danger?

A story of a psychological investigation by an Ex-FBI - Will Graham of a psychopath serial killer who is obsessed with a painting with the help of Dr.Lecter Hannibal (Psychoanalyst+Cannibal+Prisoner). Very interesting description of Will Graham trying to enter into the mind of the killer and understanding killer's mentality. A truly worth reading book.
