Young Alvin Miller, a seventh son of a seventh son, is born into the world, blessed with magical abilities to "make", he is the first Maker born in hundreds of years. Set in the early 1800's in colonial America, Alvin makes friends, learns of his powers and what they should be used for, and learns of the Unmaker, an evil entity that wants the destruction of Alvin.
