Lore van der Oest is from a wealthy family and trained as an engineer to manage futuristic environmental restoration and waste management projects. She has only one problem, she's been kidnapped and then escaped after killing one of her captors. She's found refuge in underground society with a woman named Spanner who supports herself with identity theft projects but can't complain since it's given her freedom from the bad guys who must be looking for her.

Lore falls in love with Spanner. She gets a job working in a waste water treatment plant. She accepts her change in status, except Spanner uses a drug and they take part in sex orgies for more money.
Meanwhile, management is cheating at the waste water treatment plant and creating a situation dangerous for Lore, new management has begun to notice her.
Lore moves out and finds friends who help her establish a life independent from Spanner and also finds a counselor friend. When the situation at work escalates to a point for nearly blowing up the factory, Lore saves the day with the help of a co-worker confidant.
When Lore's family rediscovers her, she has to decide whether she will return to her old life. She begins to remember more of what happened during the kidnapping and gradually suspects who set her up and why. Lore confronts her enemy, finds love and realizes the truth about her family.
